Yesterday i medicated my tank with Kordon RID*Ich.

The main chemcials in there are: Formaldehyde and Formalin.

Last night around 10pm i started seeing my fish go up to the surface for air, i have a leaf fish (i know that they can breathe air) but all my other fishes are all pale and gasping for air.

I realized that i doubled the medicated dosage. So i immidiately did a water change that night. after the water change all the fishes started to breathe easy again and sadly a 2 died.

This morning i see the same problem they are all breathing hard and going to the surface. 2 died again. SO i decided to do another water change. after the 40% water change the fishes revived again. 2 hours later i noticed the same problem.

So i called LPS they told me to come by and test the water. The PH was low. they told me to buffer the PH around 7.5-8. they said it was about 6.0

So i did what they told me the Ph right now is about 7.7.

My fishes are still struggling to breathe. Please help im out of options to do.

the problem is that the pH probably had nothing to do with this. Those buffers generally do more bad than good, best thing to have is stable pH.

add some air stones....

Either the oxygen in the water has been depleted or there is a large amount of ammonia in you tank water, both of these will cause fish to gasp. With all the water changes it is unlikely that the ammonia is the problem. Best to add an air stone as Nic suggested.

The pH level is far less important then having stable pH. If any adjustment is to be done it should be done slowly. Best if the pH in your tank matches the pH of your tap water(you do treat your tap water for chlorine?)

As for treating Ich, raise the temp to 84 degrees and add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water(treatment should last 2-3 weeks ven if no signs of ich are present.

I tested my water at the LFS and ammonia is good. Also, so it can be oxygen? i have so much air stones in there right now. hmmm im just scared that the medicine i put are making the fishes gasp for air.

Also, ich is my last thing to treat right now i just want to get my fishes acting normal again.
.... so the ph thing is bad = [ LFS should never be trusted =(

Put some new carbon in your filter, it will pull out the medication. Treat for ich with salt and heat as described in my last reply.

i had a similar problem with melafix, i overdosed (dunno how but hey, am human).... for whatever reason i woke up at like 4am in the pitch black and looked at my tank to see my fish gasping. I jumped outta bed, ran and got my bucket and did 50% water change, air stones on full blast, carbon in the filter and had that going full whack. The sigh of relief I got from the fish was amazing! I did lose 4 fish but it could have been lots worse if I had still been snoozing.
From that experience I would say keep doing a good 20-30% wc every couple of days, carbon in the filter and keep an eye on the chemicals in the water.
GL and keep us posted

What was the actual ammonia level at? It should be at 0, otherwise that would be the problem that needs to be remedied
