I have a 29 gallon tank that my daughter would like me to set up for her but it is probably 20 to 30 years old. The sealer is still rubbery but it has alot of algae residue under it. Any solutions to remove this or would it be a good idea to replace the sealer? Thanks for any help.

how deep into the sealant does it go?

Pretty deep and it has been in a tank that hasnt seen water since about 1985 or 86. Was just sitting in my uncles basement until this summer. I filled the tank with water last week and no leaks.

A couple hours of work and a $5 tube of silicone is a small price for peace of mind.

How would this be done though? I do not understand the process of "re-sealing" a tank. Do you scrape out all the current old silicone or can you just wack new silicone over the top of it? Is there anyone in the know how this works?
