my 7-8 inch florida gar has lost some scales because it always ramming the glass and freaking out. will the scales grow back? i put some stress coat inside the tank.i will post pics later
Water parameters always help. If the water is within acceptable range, it will not hurt to add a low dosage of marine salt (No more than 1 tsp/ gallon) to treat the open exposed.
Please wait for the experst before using any medication to treat your gar. The ramming glass & freaking out sounds like a possible stress condition exists for your gar. The experts may be able to give you an idea of what is causing the stress to your gar in your setup.

I totally agree with you, The spine injury resulting from the glass banging is THE uber scarry IMO. The OP needs to determine the cause of the "stress" and rectify that situation immediatly, otherwise the treatment for a couple missing scales will be totally irrelivant for a broken back gar.

4. Length of time tank has been setup.

is he doing it when the light s come on or just skiddish? if its the lights you may need to put some smaller lights in tanks that come on before the main lights so its a smaller adjustment to the light.
