k my reason why is because I have a 95 gallon 5 foot tank and I have a 8" Jag and I just added a 5" Texas Blue. I added two cons to be dithers and the jag and texas are locking jaws like nuts.... the jag wants the whole tank but the Texas is trying to take a piece for himself.... Does this kind of fighting stop or is this something that will get ugly???? The texas mouth is way smaller so the jags upper jaw is cutting the Texas forehead a bit but the texas is a warrior he is grabing that bottom jaw of the jag hard. The texas has a place where the jag can't reach him because he is to big but is this a bad thing??? like will this family ever work out??? any ideas to make this jag less territorial???

It just means that the Jag is being challenged by a new commer. This is perfectly normal for them to do when adding new fish. My new mota was locking jaws with my salvini just last week when i got the mota. I just let them be and they figured out whos boss on their own. I wouldn't recommend you do anyhting unless it gets really ugly like jag is completely tearing his face off. They will figure it out on their own just give it time. Mine took about 2 days to stop fighting and with the Salvini as Champion.

now the texas is sitting near the top of the tank he seems a little damaged but nothing to serious..... The jag just seems like he isn't happy about someone in his tank....... The texas will never be as big as the jag lol and I don't see the fighting stopping. Well I'll leave it overnight

OK I turned the lights of maybe they will cool down a bit.... would adding another contender into the mix lighten things up a bit???? I have the jag a texas and 2 convicts as dithers. The jag seems pretty insistent in removing his new room mates. Although I will take your advice and leave it overnight.

Although one thing will fighting always be normal??? like will they ever be friends???? I have always kept tanks as species tanks so have no experience like this.

In my book cichlids are NEVER friends lol. Not even mated pairs are lol. They should be perfectly fine if things don't get rough. Good thing you turned the lights off. That reminds me when my mota and sal were fighting I shut the light off and next moring when lights went on sure enough they were sleeping side by side in the log cave lol.

cross I noticed your 125 has a jag, carpinte, salvini and mota... so basicly the only fighting you have is between the salvini and the mota??? does you jag ever even look at the other guys??? my jag is a lot bigger could that be the reason for all of this???

If I added someone big and tough like my RD in there too would that make the Jag settle down a bit??? If he keeps it up I'm gonna throw him in the 90 with bruiser the Trimac.... he hasn't had any fresh meat in a while LOL

Take out all the decorations and then replace them in a new way. It will destroy the jags territory and give the texas a fighting chance at establishing his own.

I wouldn't add any more fish, and I'd take out the texas soon if he can't get a bit of tank to himself.

Hahaha ok my 125 isn't setup yet, but the Mota and Sal are in a 40 gallon. It's temperary. Also my Carpinte is in a 20 gallon as well for QT (just got him). Jag I don't have yet lol, but very soon. Oh boy that Trimac sounds pretty damn mean. I WANT ONE:cry: !!!!!!!! If you add large aggressive S.O.B's it will make it worse. I say turn the lights off or get some floating plants to dim the light and create new places to run. I wouldn't recommend you change up the deco. I know you people are going to be like WTF why not, but think of it this way if he changes it now then more fighting will continue. You are supposed to change it before you get the new fish. The whole point is to freshin things up. Now if you change it up now whatever territory the Carpinte gained is now lost and will fight for more and of course the Jag will kick his *** again for messin with him.
