I went to the LFS and had an impulse buy today. Got a school of some sort of cyprinid called a barred mountain trout on the label. The staff i trust seemed knowledgeable but I haven't found anything else about them. whatever they are they'll be pushing 1 foot and are pretty active. i'm growing 6 out in a 30 for now with 5 blind cave tetras and will be upgrading them to a 75 or larger if advised for the future first monster fish I have gotten.

:wall::wall::wall: thought i had a rare weird fish. Is it possibly zacco platypus or Raiamas chhristyi they have a pretty big mouth for their size and one is pushing 3 inches?

3 Inches is about their max lol

ah well, i'll just prey they're raiamas, they got more stripes when they calmed down and now have around 9 so i havent lost hope yet. thanks anyway

Raiamas chhristyi have longer bodies and a black/dark spot near their caudal fins. Their mouths are also larger I believe

Lol did you read over this part? :D

Not trying to get your hopes down but I really think they're just six barred danios

like I said, just trying to keep my hopes up even if they`re not christyi they might be another relative. these raiamas above don't have a blach splatch and for such a cheap fish (all 6 for 20 dollars) the responsable owner was pretty hesitant to sell them to me until i told him i'd be upgrading to at least a 75 and told me they`d be around 20 cm as adults. Thanks a lot for your help. depending on what they turn out to be i`ll be making either an asian or african stream aquarium. the fact that they have around 9 stripes is at least a little promising.

Thanks again

I've kept both together funny enough. These guys prefer their water a bit cooler than R. christyi and stay a bit smaller, about 4" max. They act more/less the same though and will still eat small fish. Those are a Barilius sp, definitely not a Raiamas.
