I thought I was purchasing convicts, but the more I started looking at all the pics of them on this sight I am unsure if these are in fact convicts due to lack of stripes. And the colors are alot different than most of the convicts I see here ( normally dark with many black stripes). The 2nd and 5th pics shows both with only one stripe running up middle of the fish.

Is there many varieties of convicts or is it likely I have gotten a pair that have been cross bread?

The first 4 pics are what I believe to be the female I guess due to the blue bellie spot (visible best in the 4th pic). This is another strange thing about this fish is that I have been told that all female convicts have orange bellies, not blue.

The last 4 pics are I believe to be the male.Kinda weird that after eggs were layed this fish is the one that was guarding and protecting the most, even moving eggs around, In which I thought the female was suppost to do most of that. And this fish is a little larger than the other with more color.

I purchased these fish with intentions on breeding them for feeders for my Jag and I was successful within just about 6 weeks of getting them and pairing them up. Pretty wild because these two are only about 1 1/2 inches in size.

These are really nice lookin fish but I'm not totally sure on what I have and would appreciate any input on both ID and sex. Thanks

Are they black convicts? Could be a color morphy They are so pretty.

I thought that the female convicts have more color then males and tend to be larger. SO I think the first 4 pics are male and the last ones female. Because of the color. I could be way off.

Whatever they are I love the color. I would want some.

What ever they are, they are super pretty.

On a side note, how do you gravel vac that substrate haha?

I'm pretty sure they are either honduran red points or they could be Cryptoheros spilurus.
