Hi,

My Dad's ex-girlfriend bought me this half dollar sized turtle at a popular tourist spot in Daytona Beach because she knew I was into aquatic animals. She can't remember the label, all I know was that is was not bought at a LFS, so it is probably just a cheap, common turtle. I have a feeling it is a RESxYES....

It has lived in a 10 gallon aquarium half way full with a rock sticking out for basking in the short time I have had it. I have a power filter rated for 200 gph on it and a heat lamp as well. I assume I need UVB so I ordered a 10 UVB reptisun lamp from the LFS.

Anyway, please help me ID this aquatic turtle. If you need any more pics of a certain area let me know.

Also, please don't bash me. I know I am a :newbie:. I am 17 yrs old and this is my first reptile or amphibian of any kind.

How is the yellow belly explained then?

Both RES and YBS have yellow bellies. Looks almost like a cross between the two. Either or, you have yourself a Trachemys scripta.

Looks Red ear slider to me.
Juvie red ear sliders look allot brighter then older specimens.

Thank you guys very much. I had no idea RES had yellow bellies too....

:iagree:

Well my friend if you think that is a cross between a Res and Ybs that I say that you are absolutley correct:D. But yes the belly is kind of bit yellow. That may even be a (Res x Ybs) x Ybs:D

This is how your turtle will eventualy look like when it grows up:D. Now I really must coment you buying a 10.0 power sun. That to use whit a baby turtle is defenitly overkill. This isnt uromastix or desert iguanas we are dealing whit.:grinno: For a baby turtle a 5.0 will be more than enough. I know many guys use it, but you are riscking your turt eye sigth.Insted of it get a weaker lamp to be on the safe side. Other more important sutf on your shoping list would be a 30 galon aquar, a nice piece of cork for bascking, some Elodea, a filter , a aquarium heater , Tetra reptomin and some frozen fish foods like bloodworms, daphnia, black worms, etc
