The colour is different what what we normally see here in Australia. Is this normal?

Its sort of reddish copper in colour. Length is about 9 inches so its only young. Will it keep its colour?

quite an interesting pattern on that fish, nice specimen!

the fish is definitely a Lepisosteus genus gar, most likely either a Florida/spotted or shortnose. given how some of the other gars going to Australia have turned out, i would lean more towards Florida/spotted, but a more definite ID can be made in a few weeks when the gar is a bit bigger and more of the pattern and other characteristics become more apparent. again, great fish!--

I'll try to post again in a couple of months time. Fingers crossed it'll keep its colour. Heres a bad quality close up for now:

The pictures were taken in natural sunlight. In real life it is actually quite a bit redder, almost burgundy in colour.
