sold to me as a "red texas" from the local LFS ...

You just ID'ed it, a texas cichlid.
However, it's a green/blue texas, or Herichtys Carpintis.
It's showing flowerhorn like characteristics, so it is probably not a true carpintis, possibly a low grade red texas? (highly probable seeing how an lfs labeled it red texas)
