Definitely looks like G. tile. Really great little eels...very outgoing and hardy if kept in marine conditions. Will be sickly and short lived in freshwater though

I have kept my G. tile in freshwater for 2 years without any problems what so ever. I do have the back up plan of putting it into brackish water if I notice a change in its behavior or appetite, but so far so good. I know that some people would probably tell you to return the fish or place it into brackish to marine water, but I honnestly think you should keep it with the back up plan of placing it into brackish to saltwater if you notice any changes in behavior. G. tile is a wonderful fish that I don't think you'd want to miss out on having in your tank. Here's some pictures of my 20 inch Gymnothorax tile.

Wow! The G. tile I have kept/seen have all lost their beautiful yellow spots and faded to a dull grey early in their maturity. Is your eel 20" in these pics?

Yes, it is 20 inches in the pictures. These pictures were taken fairly recently. I bought my eel at around 8-9 inches and it seems to have more spots now than it did when I got it. Thanks!
