I ordered 4 'marble-line gar' from TFD and last time I did they came in as florida/spotted gar. This time they came in as this:

What the hell is it? All I know is that it is not a gar

Ye its a Gar characin (ctenolucius hujeta)

Not a true gar, but a Characin. Like mentioned, it's a Hujeta Pike, but common names are Hujeta Gar, Rocket Gar, or Silver Gar.

unfortunately, TFD sucks at ID'ing gars...they screwed up orders i put in a few times and then eventually stopped ID'ing their gars (and apparently have just moved on to using some other typical nonsensical names). this issue is systemic in the LFS industry, however, so all we can do is research the latin names they have for their fishes and/or get pics beforehand.--

lol once again you'd think that if you were in the business of selling fish you would know basic fish ID! FFS there are only 7 true gar species and the only two that you can possibly confuse are Spotted Gar and Florida gar. Outstanding work TFD

At least they are still a cool fish that gets to be a nice full grown size. Better getting them than some lazy fish that sits on the bottom of the tank motionless waiting for flake food to drift to the bottom.
