Saw this little guy at my LFS and could not pass it up got him for 17.00. Can you confirm if it is indeed a Cichla and if possiable which type exactly. Hes only about 2 inches , but he has been in my tank only about 5 mins and is already happily at home. Hope hes too fast for my Arrowana ( about 5-6 inches) to catch till he can catch up.

It is 100% Cichla....and 110% to small to give you an exact sp. give it a couple of months then try again. But until then bump up the temp!!!

ok Ill check again in a few months, but I must ask why you say bump up da temp? My tank is at 80F. I was always under the impression that higher temps can increase aggression in the fish something I am not looking for. Please correct me if I am wrong.

you should not have any real problems with aggression for cichlas, orinos here and there, but no small cichla are high susceptible to ick and the increase temp will help to avoid that problem. Bump your temp to 86/87 deg. and make sure you have a good amount of airiation. Do some research, its a VERY VERY common practice for small cichla keeping.

X2

My tank is at a constant 86-87F. Helps prevent ick and keeps their metabolism up for growth. Anyways srry your cichla is a bit too small for positive id. Good luck.

Here are some updated pics. Is it still too small to tell? I noticed it is starting to get some red/brown on the bottom half of its tail.
