Long story short. Im considering picking up this gar from a local person on craigslist.

Details:

-He purchased it for 100 dollars as an alligator gar

-It is extremely aggresive to food items, he claims it will take anything that hits the water

-eats 5-6 golfish daily.

-claims it has tripled in size since he got it (idk when he got it lol)

is this an alligator gar or florida gar!

I don't know Mike, but the way the top jaw overlaps makes it look like a gator. The eyes too. I'm gonna say gator gar, but I don't know gar.

I'm sure somebody here will know for sure.
 
yes sir thats a gator gar alright and a nice looking one
 
100 percent gator. Looks to be about a foot long right now. They grow very fast at this size. Just be aware that this is the most aggreeeive species of gar, frequently attacking tankmates they can't eat. And usually top out at 3-4ft.

Just watch out for aggression. I'm assuming it would be going in with your larger catfish. Two of the one that I have were biting the wiskers off of an rtc that was almost a foot larger than they were.
