I picked this guy up a couple of weeks ago from the LFS. The LFS owner ordered him for me and admitted that he has never kept Dats and knew very little about them. I bought him as a Datnioides microlepis which is my understanding is a Indo Dat. I actually wanted three or four, but that was the only one he could get. He is roughly two inches long and his temp home is a 30 gallon tank by himself. Hopefully, I can grow him out and get him into a 360g tank eventually. His temp home is a cycled 30g, Ph 8.0, Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0 and Nitrates 5-10. Kept at 80 deg F. Water straight from the tap, conditioned with Prime. 50% weekly water changes. Diet: frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp and live Mbuna fry (from my own tanks). I've tried a few pellets with not much interest. I know feeding live may be frowned upon, but watching his hunting instincts is second to none.
He eats well and he is starting to associate me with food, he'll greet me at the front of the tank and just stare.
So is he a Indo?
Best pic I could get...
