So I'm going to get a mate for Bloo :D But just to make sure, can you JD experts make sure for me that my JD is a male? And to educate me further, can you guys tell me the reason why it is a male or a female? Many thanks again. :)

it looks like a male to me because of the extensive amount of spangling on the body and face

aha mixed reviews! x.x and thanks exwp =]

Alright thanks Jon :) Now I have to find him a good mate hehe. At what month can I tell if a JD is male or female?

Females have pearling on the lower gill pad males do not so you clearly have a female

this is not a 100% thing that males wont have any spangling on the lower gill plate, i have personally seen (and owned) males that had this, the difference is that females will have blue smeared markings on the lower gill plate and not clear defined spangling like this fish does, making it a male, to OP there are TONS of threads on sexing JDs, use the search function and flip through those threads and you will be a pro at it in no time, and with JDs you can usually sex them pretty early, their usual selling size at the pet stores is usually big enough to easily tell by the gill plate on most fish (some can be tricky when smaller but just look for the ones that are more obvious)

I've been looking through alot of threads about taking care of JDs, but the gill marking thing sound a little tricky to me haha :nilly: But if you guys are positive that mine's a male, i'll go look for a one that have the most blue in its gill and face, and hopefully it'll be a female :)
