I have this on another thread to get other answers. I put a phosphate sponge in my sump and it turned my water cloudy and my Acei is breathing fast/heavy. I did it according to the package directions and have since removed it. What do i do now....

Definatly do a water change. I would do 50%.

I did about a 30 -40% last night. This morning the fish seem to all be out swimming and acting as normal.

Will this "episode" have any long term effects on the fish or gills?

You should be fine, but I would do one more water change right away.
