100% agree on the need to avoid more exotics to become established in Australia but "transmiting dangerous parasite desiases to humans" and "keeping reptiles is selfish":headshake:shakehead And no wonder the trobble we get into for having them, we love them;) Shame that they are going to be put to sleep. I think they are being kind of extremist, considering stuff like the cane toads out there and so far contless colections with leos and aussi geckos and never leos were fond to be expecific transmiters of anything like a virus or alike that could afect aussi geckos. I think a compromise solucion could be arranged in wich people there could keep them but under close vigilance, say with inspecions, animal registracion, etc.

this is crazy, I have not once ever heard of a disease carried by leos except slamonela and your more likely to get that from the kitchen sink than any reptile
also I wouldn't even consider a leo an exotic animal

Why not? It isn't from Canada or Australia, so in those cases it's an exotic species

tiger barbs aren't from north america and they're not exotics hamsters aren't from north america and they're not exotics chickens aren't from north america and they're not exotics so why do they not count

What is your definition of exotic?

Hi,yes something must be done to avoid diseases carried by exotic species and their introduction in foreign habitats, but restrictive laws should not totally ban hobbyists.

The fact that is a exotic doesant say nothing regarding its potencialy dangerous nature, many exotics including leopard geckos and many others say chickens, guinea pigs, etc are allmost totaly harmless. Domestic cats wich by the matter are exotics too because they dont belong anywere in the wild except in the midle east from once they came from, are responsable for extinguishing hundreds of mamal, bird and reptile species, mainly on islands and carry if Im not mistaken 12 zoonozes wille geckos carry one, hoos the most dangerous?;)

If we are talking about something that is like a envoiremental cancer like Caulerpa taxipholia then ban it completly its legitimate. But leo geckos are not such thing;) Of corse considering the local aussi fauna of geckos and the suitable climate if made legal it would have to be made very restrictive, in a zoo kind of fashion with animal numbers colected, births, deaths, protecion from evacion ,etc, but possible

Hi,restrictive laws for the most part are made because of the introduction of foreign species one example pytons in Florida.
