i have half inch to 1 inch mexican beach pebbles as my substrate in my piranha tank. the thing is that food gets stuck under the rocks (so annoying!!) i have added slate to try and stop the food from falling. my question is would a pleco be ok with that kind of substrate. i need some solution and i know its a risk with the piranhas but alot of people say it can be done and thats a chance i need to try and take.. thanks.

I'm going to tell you simply not to do it, because I know people who have successfully had their plecos in for 1 night, 2 weeks, 3 months and a year and a half and more, but they all seem to have one thing in common... they bite the dust eventually, just a ticking time bomb. Plecos do well on most substrates, some plecos natural habitat is on river stones, but it's not really a problem for any in particular. Slate is fine too, it's a common material to make breeding caves.

man. i need something else to throw in there. do you have any honest suggestions? i have a rainbow shark im trying to get killed (he has attacked all my fish and ive had it) and the piranhas only nipped his fins. i knew what i was in for so no tank mates is ok i guess. just ahve to add more piranhas

I guess you didn't want to, otherwise that would be your solution in the first place, but did you really want to keep the rocks if that's much of a problem? Sometimes simplicity pays, especially when it means you don't have rotting food adding to probably an already high bioload...
