I had a gold nugget pleco with my two cichlids, a bubblebee and a kenyi.
they never seemed to bother him but he hung out behind the filter or heater all day, he ate at night sometimes. But just the other day i found him dead.

So we went to the lfs and asked for a cichlid compatible pleco, he told us to get an albino pleco so we did, no the cichlids seem to be bullying him more than they were the gold nugget. we're gonna move him to the 55 gallon untill we can solve this.

So my question to you is there anything a cichlid won't bother?

I believe they are both african cichlids and I would'nt recommend a pleco with africans personally, but I dont know a whole lot about ACs to tell you what ones could work with a pleco. I would go with a synodontis cat of some sort personally. Also, plecos generally take different water parameters than African cichlids.

I wouldn't recommend plecos with those cichlids of yours. Yellow labs are mild mannered compared to bumblebees (crabros?) and kenyis. If those are crabros, then plecos are out of the question. Stick with synos if you want tankmates for African cichlids.

Africans hate plecos

Wow really... guy at lfs said they wouldn't bother them.

Thanks.

He's in the bigger tank now. Looks like the cichlids beat him up pretty good... i hope it's not to late for him.

Ps. Cabros are super tough and aggressive. If it turns almost black w/o any barring, it is most likely a male. A female is a bit more mellow, but if a pleco tries to take her cave, she will defend.

I had a kenyi that killed two common plecos and ate the eyes out of another. I got rid of the kenyi, it was causing other problems too. The pleco with no eyes is still doing great two years later.

Synodonis cats are the best cats for your Africans. They don't take no shibby... Geophagus cichlids or any kind of barbs work best with the plecos.
