i been in and out of many forums reading on the "pleco and acrylic tank" comp. i cannot get any solid info as many threads just lead me to "certain species" can scratch.

i just have a common pleco from wally to help control diatoms in my glass tank.

my question is that will the common pleco scratch my new acrylic tank, in which i just setup?

a fast answer would be if any of you guys keep your common pleco in acrylic tanks? any scratches?

thanks for your help.

It would be nice for someone to summarise the Acrylic vs Glass thread down to something manageable and concise.
This is my own personal experience. For 6 years I have relied solely on 3x 20 year old Gibbiceps to keep the 2.4 x 1.2 metre acrylic panel in my tank free of algae. I have never cleaned it myself. There is some hard green algae on the panel but I can confirm it can be removed by a bit of scrubbing with soft polyester wool . As far as I can tell the panel has not been damaged by the Gibbecips and is still as clear as when new. The pond also uses a rubber liner which does not leak. Apparently this is a 2nd cardinal sin for keeping Gibbiceps/Plecos. I have always had a large quantlity of wood in the tank. Approximately 80 metres of 4" diameter logs. After 6 years the logs are now only 3" diameter. I guess the Gibbiceps will always prefer the soft algae covered wood and can keep the acrylic clean without damaging it.
