Pleco confusion

Like most i used to think plecos eat only algae. But then i saw mine eating dead silversides and massivoire delite. Then i read that they eat wood and that they eat feeder fish?

What do common sailfin plecos eat?

I feed mine cucumber and algae wafers. I also give him tilapia as a treat.

By sailfin you mean L083 correct? I feed mine algae wafers, shrimp pellets, cocktail shrimp, and zucchini.

Its a common misconception, and common plecos often don't really eat algae as they get big, they prefer plants and meaty foods. Not picky eaters really.

My bristlenose pleco usually eats extra food pellets left over from my other fish off the bottom of the tank, as I don't really have any algae (planted tank). And he's almost always sucking on one of my pieces of driftwood. I don't make an effort to feed him algae wafers or vegitables anymore, since he seems all fat and happy eating scraps from the other fish.
