Hey guys i have a common pleco and was wondering what the best thing to feed him would be. He is only around 1.5 inches long.. Also i have Golden ivy POTHOS growing at the top of the tank. Will he eat the roots?? What kind of water parameters are best for these guys..

Chopped up zucchini is excellent for Plecos. Try to drop it in at night, so your other fish don't get hold of it.

Also, they make Algae tabs/wafers that have a picture of a Pleco on the front. I buy these for $1.50 at the LFS, and they last about 2-3 weeks. It suppliments the algae in the tank that the Pleco eats. If you leave the Pleco to just eat Algae and discarded food, it will starve to death.

If there is enough food on the bottom of your tank to keep a Pleco alive, you are overfeeding.

HBH makes a decent algae wafer, but also offer fresh veggies (no pesticides!). I used to hide massivore inside zucchini for my pleco. Now I just dump food in after lights-out and all the catfish jump out to eat it, plec included.

I actually buy the big wafers. It almost looks like some of those "weekend fish feeder tabs". About as big around as a 50 cent piece

I've never had experience with the smaller wafers
