I have a 8 inch common pleco in my 55 gallon tank, had him for about 6 months. I have noticed small what appear to be holes near the edges of the silicon where the sides of the tank meet up, there are quite a few of them and range from about .25mm to about 2mm in size. I think that the pleco is eating (rasping) on the silicon. I don't have any driftwood in the tank, just a large fake ship and plastic plants. Will the pleco eat the silicon enough to cause a leak? should i be worried? ever hear of anyone elses tank that had this problem? i have the option of giving the tank to a friend that has a 500g if i need to get rid of him. Advice please!

I have never heard of a pleco eating silicone. If he is it has to be due to improper diet or lack of food. If I had one doing it I would get rid of it if I had a 500 gal for it to go too. Its gonna out grow the 55 anyway. Look into a bristle nose pleco, they are cheap, stay small and easy to get. Driftwood always looks good.....try it!

Not sure where i would buy driftwood..... but okay, thanks!

never heard of it, but jesus....talk about a worst nightmare! Get some sinking algae pellets also. You can get them at any petco, petsmart, ect
