I have a 5" L190 and I'm wondering about it's growth rate. I've had the fish for about a year and it seems to have grown very little:irked:

It's in a 125 gal. with some rays and a goby. It eats very well but the growth just doesn't seem to be there.

I've seen several pictures on the web of huge royals and I'm wondering if the growth rate varies between the different L#'s. Example...Does the L190 grow as large and as fast as a L330?

Thanks

All royals are slow growers. The L190 actually gets a little smaller than the L330, but both take years to get up in size. I have a royal that is over 2 years old that still hasn't hit 8".

Royal Plec grows 1-3 cm a year

Not true. Growth is dependent on food, and availability of food. My royal gains 3" a year. I've had some that gains less than an inch a year and one that gained nearly 5" in it's first year.

Also, not all fish achieve their 'said max size', plecos included. That means that growth rates for even same species of fish will vary. Royals are super slow growers especially once they hit the 3+ year mark.

I have a dwarf rubbernose pleco that hasn't grown even a cm in 5 months and it has alot of food offered but only seems to like to eat wood and a bit of algae
