Ya he is eating it seems more like a general loss of color in that area on both sides

If I recall I think my Gibbicep had the same issue. But the color came back and he grew to about 12 inches. Do you give him Zucchini and cucumber. If not give it to him and see if his color change.

It's from stress, but I wouldn't worry; they do that anytime they see stuff that spooks them, but they get used to stuff eventually and colour back up.

It really can be a number of factors, diet, stress (due to a range of issues), tank mates.
