I have a question for those who have experienced with this. I am think about adopting a ray, who has been "attacked" by pleco(s). There are about 2 areas on this ray, where the pleco has sucked some of the skin off. You can see alittle bit of blood in the wounded area. The wound is not big, size of a dime at most. The ray is 12in big and is breathing normally. The current owner has bumped up the temp and added salt to about 3lb per 100 gal. He is still trying to figure out what to do, but I was thinking how will these wounds heal. Is there anything else to look out for? The plecos are separated now, but he has offered them to me. Just wanna make sure this ray will be able to make a full recovery before I try to try him in.

wounds will heal like normal.... maybe just a little mark left... but the disk should heal up.... think about all the mating wounds female rays get.... as long as ur friend acted fast enough and got the pleco out of there ... and they ray is eating.... it should heal up

are you sure it was the pleco and not the other ray .

i had a few marks on mine that looked like a plec ( and wernt ) . pics would probably help . but it could just be the other ray .

these are not "bite" marks, not flesh missing, they looking fresh picked scabs.LOL anyways he is for sure its the plecos, he had seen the pleco actually doing it. He has had the plecos with rays for a few months. He recently removed some drift wood and stones to give the rays more swimming room. That might have set the plecos off.

:) ^

I wouldn’t have added that much salt, but stingray wounds heal up really nicely when they are eating well and aren’t too stressed. I’ve seen disc damage heal in a matter of a few days, and I’ve seen a severely torn up / burned disc (that was partially necrotic) take several weeks to heal up.

Depending on the recovery time and severity of the wound, the stingray may have a scar at the site of the initial injury.

Well if that is the case, I may just take on another ray. I was just afraid that the ray would be too stressed or infected. I didn't want to introduce it to my rays, and cause them any stress or chance of infection.
