I had my convicts in a mixed breed tank, and I recently transfered them to a tank of their own. In the mixed tank I had a pleco and no issues. I introduced a royal pleco into the convict only tank and my royal is now all torn up. The royal is about an inch longer than the convicts, my params and temp are good, any ideas why im having aggression probs? From what I read, I heard the royals are supposed to be pretty aggressive themselves. Any comments greatly appreciated.

What are the sizes of both tanks? Because I think in smaller tanks they are more likely to beat up a pleco, in bigger tanks they just chase them away.

I agree....if the tank is large enough the plecs should be fine but I think you'd need at least a 30 long or larger. Eventually you'll need a much larger tank anyway cause the royal plec is gonna get big. :)

The 3.5 in royal is with 2 two inch convicts in a 55gal. I have a 240 gal my royal will be going into eventually. There are also alot of hiding spots in my 55, yet the convicts can't seem to stay away from my plec. Their favorite side of tank was the opposite side until i introduced the royal. I dont know why they have it out for him and never had for my other pleco.

Every convict Ive had has always terrorized bottow feeders. I cant keep plecs cause my Male Con loves to eat their eyeballs. I would take the plec out soon before it is missing an eye.

Some cichlids just hate plecos. Simple as that. All you can do is rehome the pleco, either to another tank or back to the lfs, because it is obvious it is going to die if you leave it in the 55g.

Or a better option would be to rehome the cons as you can pick them up very cheaply and at almost every lfs, wait a while to get some size on the royal and then buy 2 more cons and try again. I have never had a problem with cichlids picking on plecos so chances are you have a bad con or two.

I agree, sometimes you just can't keep plecos with cichlids, it just won't work out. I can't keep any with my cichlids in both tanks, they beat the crap out of them.

Thanks all! I will probably take in my cons. I just thought it was strange...I have always kept my cichla with plecos and no issue, but have not had convicts alone. Thanks cichlid2006 good idea.
