Hey everyone I was thinking about how suitable a type of pleco would be in my ply tank. The tank is 3/4" ply with 5 coats of 2 part epoxy paint that's all no fibreglass. Is it a possibility that a pleco could wear down the coating quicker by constantly sucking and latching on to the paint?. I'm probably worrying about nothing but had to ask. I would want a fairly large plec approx 8-10".

What's your thoughts people?

I imagine with a driftwood loving pleco species, you'd completely mitigate the concern. I'd like to hear what the pleco guys would say about this.

Moved to plecos.

Thanks for the response mate. Can anyone suggest any specific plecos for me? I would much rather have experienced people suggest than rely on me searching Google lol

I can't tell you what to stay away from

IME hypostomus and panaque will try to eat anything and can break down hard materials over time if the constantly rasp at it.

I guess you'd be ok with some 25's, 24's both are nice

I have a 13" L-600 at the moment that never sucks to the sides of the tank. He mostly stays on the bottom other than maybe cruising over rock piles and driftwood. All the pseudacanthicus sp. I've had have been this way. Gibbiceps and Panaque that I've had in the past on the other hand, sucked to the sides frequently.

In my opinion I think a pleco be bad and I say this because if you read around, some plecos even put big craters on acrylic tanks! It would suck bad to see a tank destroyed from that

Carnivores would be your safest bet. Pseudas like slippery's L600, L114, L24, L25 n' so on. Goldie L14 would be fairly safe as well. I think epoxy is harder than acrylic, as long as you give them enough food, some driftwood to hide and suck on, you should be fine.

Thanks for all the replys, I am glad I asked now lol. I have a massive lump of wood in my tank and large rocks to keep one busy. I will just have to keep a keen eye out to monitor where it goes.

Id probably suggest l200, 128, gold nuggets also. They don't get to big tho. Those that I mentioned like veggies.
I think vampires might work too, l240, 7, 29, again I rarely see them at 8"
