Where Palm Trees Grow
OK I just got a 6 inch common pleco last week and when I put him in the tank he hid which I thought he would do. But he wont come out in the day time at all but when It is dark and I turn all the lights off he comes out but I'm worried because he wont eat at all in the day time every time I turn the lights on he goes crazy and finds the closest hiding spot he can and he takes plants out of the ground while he is doing that. I'm thinking he is stressed because of my 1 and a half foot long moray eel in the tank that killed my payara last week. His tankmates are 1 dinosaur bichir, 1 rtcxtsn hybrid catfish, 1 hujeta gar, 4 bala sharks, and 1 iredescent shark. Any help on this?

well buddy not to be a jerk or nothing i kno you asked about the pleco but most pleco's are nocturnal if im rite . and a moray that big REALLY needs to be in a full marine tank or it wont last that long its a salt water fish :)

Sounds fairly normal to me, plecos are generally nocturnal and don't like light. I've had one that behaved similarly. If your plants are real then he'll be eating them at night so don't worry about him not eating during the day. Even so, he'll scrounge anything left over he can find to eat at night if they're fake plants.

Their armour plating makes them very resilient to attack from other fish, just see the odd nipped fin.

The one to watch will be your rtcxtsn as they can eat plecs whole, although it's more likely to go for your other fish first, especially your bala sharks. How big is that tsnxrtc? how big is thet tank? and is there plenty of hiding places like a big tangle of bog wood for the pleco to avoid it in?

Thought so, but didn't want to look a tit!

I got some plecs that i NEVER saw by daylight, although I've had them for years.
Some just stay noctural, it's allways a guess, but most wait until nightfall to come out.
Nightlights solve that problem, you can see all the action at night.

yea my pleco in my oscar tank never coes out until about 4-5 and i cut the lights out then he goes to work

dont turn the lights on when the room is dark. turn the room lights on first, then the tank lights. feed the tank right after u cut the lights so the plec gets some food.

Commons take about a month to shake off shock and get used to their surroundings. the hybrid cat and iridecent shark will eat everything other than each other and require 500+ gallons, the hjueta gar also needs a big tank, the bichir ("dinosaur eel") will be eaten by everything in that tank, and all moray eels require at least brackish water. I really hope you have a plan for all this.
