I've heard this before happening. Will a pleco do this though even to a big gar. it's one pleco and it's maybe 4 inches, and the largest gar is 14 and the smaller gar is like 11 inches. Their Florida gars. I've at night turned the light on to the fishroom and have seen him just swimming around and chilling, never near the gars. Also haven't seen any spots where it would look like this is happening.

Should I remove the pleco, or wait until I notice damage, he has been in there for over a month(125 tank) with no damage to the gars. :)

yes, remove the pleco.. Gar sometime just chill on the bottom and the pleco will suck on their slim coat.. Happen to mine.. if you don't, you will eventually start seeing blob of white spot where the slim coat is gone on ur gar!

I had it happen to one of my gars. Since gars can be difficult to treat if they get sick, it's really better to just prevent this from happening altogether by removing the pleco. I hated to take my rhino pleco out, because he looked great in the tank, but he did begin to attach himself to one of my gars, so he had to move.

Damn, well thanks guys, I'll have to catch this bugger some how. Plecos are fast especially in a bigger tank.:)

Will a raphael catfish be fine with them?He just sits in his cave until dark, like the pleco he has been in there for over a month.

A raphael catfish will do fine with gars. But gars will not do fine with pleco. A big gar is actually a better target for a pleco. The gar don't mind them sucking till the pleco ate some slime and later the gar start to develope scale rot and might die of infections.

IME, If your pleco is well fed, (fresh vegies every day) he will leave all tank mates alone. I find that the veggies also keep them busy at night as well. I have heard that once they develop a taste for slime coat its hard to break them though. Good luck.
