I want to complete my south american set up with medium sized (5-8 inch) pleco.

I have only ever kept one pleco that i had to get rid of (was getting beat up by my old sajica) so I know very little about them.

I am looking for a fairly active pleco, with attractive colour/pattern that would leave my tank full of s***.

Am I asking for too much here?

Apologies I should have told you what fish are in that tank.

Mainly geos, some cories, and lemon tetras oh and a dwarf pike.

Green phantoms are cool! L24 flame tail, L214 Leopard Cactus , or even a couple of L134 Leopard frogs.

Good luck trying to find a cheap L24 or L134.
Leopard Cactus is L114, cheaper than L24, but possibly still pricey.
Try L204, I've seen them as cheap as $20-$25 each, and they are fairly active, especially with a group of them defending territories.

L001 is a nice looking more common lower priced pleco which doesn't get super big. Everyone else already named the more pricey ones.

I had a look in my LFS and there are some very attractive ones in there but come with a very unattractive price tag!!

One I did see was a small golden nugget plec that wasnt to expensive. What are these guys like? The suit the bill in terms of size and colour but anyone know how active they are? And generally dietry requirements?
