I have a sailfin pleco and a motoro in my 180 gallon on two seperate sides of a divider. Pretty soon the divider is coming down and I want to keep both the pleco and the ray together. I know its generally not a good idea....but can it work??

there is only one way to find out...

I certainly intend to try it but I'm looking for other people's experiences with this combo to see what to look out for. I'm just afraid the pleco will suck on the rays slimecoat after dark.

You know a while back I asked in another thread if bgks and motoros would get along and I got the EXACT same response that you just gave to this thread word for word...was that u Nic?? :grinno: I think the thread got deleted during the server changeover though.

Your concern is the reason you should be concerned. I wouldn't keep a pleco with any slow moving bottom dwelling fish.

rays are not really slow moving fish...

and yea that was prob me who said that... cause its really the only answer to those kind of questions... sometimes it works sometimes it fails.... there is only one way to find out...

Yeah I guess you are right. I suppose I was just making sure that it has worked for some people. Wouldn't want to try something that was a guaranteed failure.

I have Hystrix stingray with Pseudacanthicus pleco's. L25 and L282 are +10", another L25 and L24 are 4" and then there's one Acanthicus Adonis 8". They have been in same tank for a year without problems.

I had 2 Panaques, but I got rid of those before stingray arrived, because heard that those might not come along with stingrays. I'm not so concerned with carnivorous plecos, because those ain't sucking surfaces so much. The mouth structure for carnivorous plecs is a bit different and these merely bite when eating, not suck. The only concern is Adonis, but I constantly observe them if someone gets too interested in rays slimecoat. So I would suggest trying Pseudacanthicus, Leporacanthicus or Scobinancistrus species. Cannot guarantee anything though..

Here's one video showing that sometimes L25 chases stingray a bit, but it never have bitten her. It would leave a mark and I would notice it.

Actually my friend have two Panaque Cochliodons (Blue Eyed Pleco) in same tank with stingrays and he hasn't had any problems either. Also there are pseudas, scobis and other monsters.

beaing a sprawled out fish i wouldn't do it. those rays can take up quite a bit of space and plecos (if they're like mine usually don't stay in one place) would eventually find the ray and think, YUM thats tasty
