Somewhere lost
Is it a good idea to put a pleco with a RES. The slider is only about 2" and the pleco is 6-8". It is a 55gl tank. Also what exactly is the growth rate on RES? I know it's not exact but what would you say is normal?

I had a 12 inch Pleco in my tank and had to remove it, even my turtles were only like 12 inches long they constantly harassed the Pleco and nipped at it.

There are minnows in there to keep him distracted, I put them in there so he gets exercise chasing them and not sit around all day like he did before he had them to chase. So would having them in there divert him from a pleco? Or a complete no go? Also any input on growth rate?

The problem with Plecos is that they are sorta of slow and don't do much, making them easy prey.

o god its about a foot long and its made of plastic thats right its a scrubber. man up and clean theres no easy way out of it. tho there is some liquid for ponds you can use that gets rid of al the algae.

It deeply hurts me when people use plecos to clean algea they dont even really eat algea. I have a ten gal grow out with two happy plecos tiny l 83 and female ancestrus teminikii. guess what the tank i covered in algae what does that mean get ready for a shocker plecos dont enjoy eating algea. they like cucomber baby spinach spirulina tablets lettuce nectarine among other things if anything the pleco will just make your tank dirty. I hate seeing people who only feed their plecos when their tummies cave in thats just sick would you only feed a dog when it starts showing its ribs? NO :swear::swear:

sorry about that skinny plecos just make me so sad :(

so please just get a scrubber they are effective and fast or just get some of the algea clear liquid. stop the pleco abuse

Please don't comment on this if you have no idea on my rout of taking care of my animals. I do feed my plecos more then algae, they aren't starving. So please refrain from accusing me of bull when it's not true. My placos don't have to eat algae if they didn't want to but they do. I also have my reasons for not wanting to use a scrubber so don't say anything about it to me. If you don't want to post helpful info other then to yell don't post at all.

A usually slow moving, often stationary fish would typically be a bad idea for a RES. Given the size of the two it may also be bad the other way around with the pleco latching onto the turtles shell and drowning it...anything is possible. A fish isn't the solution for algae removal in a turtle tank.

A 2" RES still has a soft, rubbery shell for the most part and a Pleco can easily chew and damage it. Not a good mix.
