i have plecos in my 7' tank but i want to turn in into brackish but don't wanna get rid of my plecos. has anyone done this before??

please don't move this thread:)

cheers

You'll have to move your plecos. They won't adapt well to BW.

It's not the fact that they are armored nor have scales that salt irritates them, salt adds to high conductivity level which is not tolerated by plecos that prefer lower conductivity levels. The added electrolytes will be too much for the plecos' osmoregulatory system to handle.

Yup, they develop nasty boil type growths, they do not work in a brackish system, do not try it. Some will last longer than others, but plecos are freshwater fish.

hmm fair enough. trust me guys i'd never do anything to harm my plecos!!i have around 9 different types and i've had a couple from when i first started fish keeping!!

i was thinking of turning it brackish as i'm looking at getting rid of my P.Bass for a Mangrove Jack. apparently these guys can tolerate full fresh but need slightly salted water as they get older. however i have heard that they can live their whole lives in full fresh.

might have to see if this is true as i don't wanna get rid of my plec's!!

has anyone kept a MJ with plecos??

cheers for your comments
