Hi! Just read RD's thread on plecos and wood again ( https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/can-plecos-digest-wood.509614/ ) and I have some follow up questions;
I have read a lot on here about people using apple or cherry wood to escape their tank with. Has anyone tried this with their panaques, and if so, how did they like it?
Are there any other woods you have used that your panaque species preferred over others?
Any that surprised you?
Thanks for any info!
Josh

Java wood, typically sold for reptiles and parrots. It needs a massive amount of pre-soaking to leach out the stink (smells like horse piss), but after that is good to go. My last piece took 4 months of soaking/rinsing, repeat, in a Rubbermaid tub before it finally became water logged. Very dense wood, but comes in some very interesting shapes. Most plecos will enjoy grinding it into ash...
