I have two plecos in my 55 along with various cichlids. I drop in algae wafers for them daily but they have been munching on the cichlid pellets as well. It's quite cool actually because they float upside down beneath the water and chew on the pellets. I was just wondering if this could cause ant dietary problems? Seeing as how they are mainly herbivorous. They have doubled in size since they started eating the pellets FYI.

Common plecos are actually omnivores, and will eat practically ANYTHING. It's true that they should be fed plenty of vege matter to keep their gut working properly, and they can get constipated, and even die, if fed high protein food all the time.

But it will do them no harm at all if they steal some of the cichlid pellets, as long as they are getting their "greens" as well.

Try some chunks of fresh vege in there too, just weigh down a slice of cucumber or zucchini and leave it in there overnight.

should be no worries ... as noted, they are omnivorous, and ultimately it's all still "fish" food ... my port acaras love algae wafers, so they each get one every night

whatever keeps 'em healthy and happy ...
