Alright, he's a question for my fellow pleco keepers. Can common plecos winter over in New York? Now, last time I checked there is no way in Gods name its possible due to their natural habitat being warm water. However, My uncle who owned fish many many years ago, told me the guy at the pond store said plecos 2ft and over can survive in the winter.

Now, understand I personally am not stupid enough to try this. I keep my plecos in my nice heated aquarium. Its currently 30 degrees outside and that pond is iced over.

Shed some light on this one.

I had one that I missed in a growout pool of 2500 gallons that I missed. It did not survive the winter in New Orleans, which doesn't freeze so I would say no. Most tropicals can't take below 50 degrees.

Thats what I figured. But just to make sure I figured I would ask. I would hate to say something and be wrong. Know what I mean?
