Which, if any, plecos are safe to to keep with large cichlids you are trying to breed (safe both for the plecs and the eggs). I like the role of the plecos in the tank but don't want to compromise breeding
Amphilophus species, Vieja species, etc. I know some of the larger plecos don't mind taking some shots to get to eggsAll.
What kind of Cichlids are we talking here?
best bet would be larger species, For sure....Gibbiceps, Pardalis, or just a plain ol' Common so incase he gets killed it doesn't cost you much of a loss, as far as $$$$ goes. personally, i have always kept Cichlids w/ catfish and plecos, CAEs, etc and 99% of them survive, and Plecos can become territorial and CHASE THE CICHLIDS as they get bigger, believe it or notAmphilophus species, Vieja species, etc. I know some of the larger plecos don't mind taking some shots to get to eggs
But won't the larger plecos have a better chance at eating the eggs?best bet would be larger species, For sure....Gibbiceps, Pardalis, or just a plain ol' Common so incase he gets killed it doesn't cost you much of a loss, as far as $$$$ goes. personally, i have always kept Cichlids w/ catfish and plecos, CAEs, etc and 99% of them survive, and Plecos can become territorial and CHASE THE CICHLIDS as the get bigger, believe it or not
As far as Cichlid tankmates, it really just doesn't get any better than Catfish, preferably the armored type - Plecos, Raphaels,, Hoplos, etc
Yes.....why yes they will.....but it would be phenomenally STUPID for it to try stealing eggs from a full-grown pair of AmphilophusBut won't the larger plecos have a better chance at eating the eggs?
Thank youJust give everyone lots of caves so the pairs can defend a territory when they chose a spawning area
Anytime.Thank you
i certainly never had a problem with it, and i had a LOT more catfish than just a Pleco or 2. They never bothered my Jags, JDs, Convicts, Jewels, GTs, Flowerhorns, etcYou probably won't breed cichlids with pleco room mates. Doesn't matter how vigilant they are on or in their nest/pit/cave/flowerpot during the day- at night they have down time your pleco will clean up all of the eggs during the night shift.
