I know standard plecos aren't suggested tankmates for gar and bichir, but I'm wondering if I could put a bristlenose, or any other species of plecos in with them. We have some really nice looking baby regular & albino bristlenoses at work, and I'm looking to pick up one of each to make a pair, if they'll go in with my others.

Thanks!
Ronnie

I have some vampire tyoe and cactus type with my bichirs and gars and they don't bother the bichir and gar. I also have some startlight bristlense in there too and a papa panaque. It's usually the common and the sailfin pleco or any in of those type of plecos that botheres the ganoid scaled fish.

I got a 10" Hypostomus, an 8" Mustang Cactus pleco, a 6"Xingu new polkadot pleco and a small 2,5"Ancistrus in with my Gar.
My Hypostomus bumps him from time to time.
And the Gar will swim a bit and lay down again.
There's no sucking on my fish whatsoever.
I'm keeping close watch, though...

And the small pleco has a huge cave he hiddes in from my oscar and gar.
I think my gar may try to grab my ancistrus if he could.
Provide good hidding places, Gar can be very hungry!

Thanks for the input! I'm going to pick up a group of bristle noses tonight to split between the aquariums.

No worries on my guys being hungry- The smaller guy is in a growout packed with schools of feeders, and the larger one gets fed somewhere around 60 rosy reds a week. He is perpetually chunky!

Also, Noddy, a hypostomus placo is a common pleco. The latin name of a Common Pleco is Hypostomus plecostomus. Those would be the ones most people have trouble with and recommend against.
