Are all plecos a risk with polypterus? I have always wanted a big gold nugget or leopard, but not at the risk of the fish.

Bristlenose does the best with smaller polys. They only get about 5-6" max, there are some plecos that do like slime coat and are more predatory plecos. I have kept rhinos and sailfin plecos with multiple bichirs with zero problems.
i have a peppermint and blue panaque with mine and they dont even go on the same side of the tank as my polys lol
I had a gold nugget with my ropes and sens for years. Never had any issue. He just loved his bloodworms and cucumber.
I had leopard pleco with my senegals for years and never had an issue with him going after their slime coats. If anything, it was like they were best friends.
