plecos

yes they need a filter and you will need a heater unless your tank will stay warm

they can take indoor temp unless you keep your house at 20*

plecs can live in lower temps all the way up to the highs. However they do come from the Amazon basin (S.A plecs, and millions of others usually still in warm climates) where I think it would seldom fall below 22 degrees. So I think its more a case that they can survive rather than thrive in the lowers. Filter is a must as Plecs are the messiest fish EVER lol, ok oscars etc are probably worse but plecs are still bad so with no filter you're looking at goldfish in a bowl scenario.

I kept plecos in a pond when the air temp would drop into the 40's and 50's without any problems. But heavy filtration is a must.

First of all what kind of pleco?

Most of the fish sold as common plecos at the pet store don't NEED a heater if your house stays in the 70s, but it will aid in preventing the water temperatures from fluctuating too much.
I think they'd prefer their tank heated to tropical temperatures either way.

Pleco's excrete a lot of waste. My 3 3" bristlenose plecs can produce fecael matter up to 6" long. 10x filtration is what I always have as a minimum. Good bio-filters are best. A heater will aid in winter, but every fish tank I own has a heater, rergardless of weather conditions.

thanks for the advice i moved my big pleco i measured it 12 inches i put it in a 20 by itself with kjust and ug filter with the air stone thing yah know can i just throw some pellets in there will he eat those i know he eats frozen krill i always have on hand

Do you not have the room for something bigger?

Honestly he'd be better off in a very large tub with filtration than a 20g tank. That's not much.
A large tub with some filters could be set up very cheap and give him room to move around, and an easier time maintaining water quality.

As far as food, he'll eat a variety of things. Slices of zucchini, algae wafers, just about any type of pellet, etc.
