I want to get a Pleuo. But...
Having trouble finding info on keeping a Pleuro. Haven't be able to find sources with the same temp & P.h requirments, so far heard temps from 72-82 & ph from 6-7.5. Which is best for them? How large of a tank for 2? Tankmates? How prone are they to that channa ulcer-like disease? How MUCH & how rare are they?

Any other suggestions for a medium->large colorful channa?

I have a tank with a Ph of 7 & a temp of 82-ish. Tankmates are a sengal bichir & rainbow shark.

Pleurophthalma come from tropical waters all year round, keep in 80-84 degrees F (26-28 degrees C). A pH of 7.5 is fine. Keep in long, open spacious tank with fast moving current. Pleuros have a high metabolism rate so a good biological filtration system is essential to deal with all the wastes products.

I would also consider getting or keeping at least 3, rather than 2. As they do best when kept in groups.

Pleuropthalma are a peacful channa sp. Senegal bichir and rainbow shark should be fine as tankmates, as long as large enough not to be eaten. I personally would steer away from feeding live feeder fish (goldfish), just to avoid introducing disease or parasites into the tank.Instead try feeding with raw market shrimp, freeze-dry krill, live earthworms, mealworms and crickets. Feed pellets also, if accepted.

Very beautiful active fish. GL and enjoy! :)

very fussy eaters in my experience! make sure theres a varied diet from day one, i find it hard to get mine to eat new foods if they even do accept the food

Thanks, sounds like a great snakehead to kept in my tank.
What did you guys pay for yours?

i'd keep more than 2.

theyre not really picky about water conditions.
just keep it clean.
need strong filtration.
get to around 16 inches.
so a tank like 6 feet long would be good.

some other nice med. sized channas are pulchra, auranti and i also like maculata.
