So I can't find a hood for my 75 gallon.

Can I buy a piece of plexiglass, and have it cut to fit all the filtration etc? I would like it to be able to open without removing the whole thing, I was thinking of cutting it at 1/3 of it's width and (using silicon) attach two hinges and a handle so I can open it up for feeding a minor cleaning.

I think I might paint it on the top side because I have seen algae build up on hoods/tops and doubt I will want to look at it from above.

Thoughts?

This would work. i have 4 windows on the top of my tank and each has a plexiglass cover. but my cover has a 2 inch wide opening in the back fo my hoses.

It wouldnt be hard to drill the holes for ur mec. work. and plexi is easy to cut. with just a box cutter. score then snap at the line. I found a table saw works the best though.

good luck

Awesome.

All the plexi lids I've made have always warped. What's the secret?

i used it for my 125 its a 3 section on top and the plexi glass started to bow from moisture... idk if i didnt use thick enough plexiglas or wat

It's going to curl on the ends! Will work....and wont curl right away though.

even my 1/2 acrylic bows after a while...it is just gonna happen.

Really. I thought I was using plexi that was too thin, too. I even tried lexan. My best defense so far is to drill the holes symmetrically and flip the lids every month or so.
