I picked up my first monster tank for a steal, however all i have is the tank. I have a good idea how i want to build the stand, but i also need new lids, the tank didnt come with them.

My question is: Is glass the only option for the lids, or are other materials (plexiglass/acrylic) options as well.

My biggest concern is that the lids will need to hold up the 36" strip lights, and I am worried the heat from the lights will make the Plexi/acrylic sag. The span is about 40". 1/4 inch may sag, but im thinking that 3/8 should hold up. Anyone else have any ideas or experience in this matter? Thanks, Chris

Plexiglass (trade name for acrylic) is going to warp no matter what thickness you use. It absorbs moisture. The side toward the higher concentration of water vapor will grow slightly larger than the other side, causing it to bow toward the higher concentration. The solution that others have come up with is to periodicly flip them.
