will add more recent pics in a few days :)

in my observation, its a very shy type of channa. always hiding under the driftwood. black in color and have a white underbelly as seen in the picture. likes to eat shrimp and small fish. has just grown 2 inches at least since i got it. from 9 inches to 12 inches more or less. when stressed turns orange/brownish shade with black bars.

unlike my micro which grew from a 4 inch juvy to an 18 inch eating machine in the last 3 months i had it. sadly, it died a few days ago, committed suicide :( lesson learned, always keep tank cover.

also have a few questions for the experts
a. what is the growth rate of a maruloides?
b. when do they show their flower patterns?

looks like gachua

heres pic of my old one hope it helps

I am not an expert, but I think the snout/head is a bit too elongated for this to be a Gachua.

I am leaning towards Channa striata.

Cheers,
Sid

Hi,

I think its striata, could be melasoma, too (how big ist the fish), but it looks closer to striata.
And its not a gachua for sure

interesting suggestion !
the shown fish has some paatern in the dorsal fin I did not recognize at first sight.
But the body looks patternless.

Waiting for mor pictures

Would go for emperor snakehead, have seen them at this size and look exactly the same.
