very nice paraiba, huge wolf too... thanks for sharing!-) guessing by fila and capa you are refering to a sub species?

the piraiba is mine now but the rest of the fishes on the pics above are not, and I am still waiting for the right time to arrange for a shipment to my place. I could tell the different between fila and capa when they are juvies, but the story is different now that the fish I am buying is now around 70cm. I hope some experts will jump in and help me id this cat. Meanwhile I could only ask for pics of the cat from my friend to send it to me.

below are more recent pics of the cat temporarily in a pond. Does anyone else has any ideas of what this is? thanks

Might wanna PM Fugupuff, Necrocanis, cgibby, Exoticfishguy, tyjo, and Co...

You have a response from Dr. Heok Hee Ng on the same PCF thread http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=40034.

Necrocanis' friend/contact/collaborator Dr. John Lundberg is the taxonomist who split capa from fila.

yeah I was hoping to get more thoughts on this one, i've read few threads just for comparisons but at this size its hard to tell

here is a pic pf the same cat when it was around 35-40cm around a year ago according to the previous owner.

If you read all/most relevant threads (posted within 1-2 years from now), you must have seen Necro's postings describing Dr. Lundberg's response to Necrocanis (with our collective question) with the hand drawing of the tooth patches.

Dr. Lundberg insists that using the exterior features = guessing and THE ONLY sure way to tell capa from fila (and now I am thinking he meant larger fish, not juvies) is by looking at the tooth patches. To my ignorant eye it seems he means the patches' geometry and relative sizing but I need to find this info in Lundberg's article/revision to be sure.
