I noticed my tigirnus wasn't eating for a few days, but still had a big belly. He then lost all of his color and started to swim a little awkwardly. I remembered feeding him a big piece of shelled shrimp right around when he stopped eating.

I immediately moved him into a 10 gallon quarantine tank with the water level at about a 1/3. I then tried force feeding him a few peas, and it didn't really work. Then I added some epsom salt (at a rate of a tablespoon per 10 gallons). At this time he was having a hard time staying down and he was constantly laying on his back.

I also added some general cure at this point.

He is laying flat now, but it still tipsy. He is still in the espom solution and his belly has gone down (although I haven't seen any poop).

Is there anything else I can do? I'm going to feed him little chunks of pellets until he will eat again on his own.

Tigrinus is about 5". Water parameters are 0,0,5ppm

I also noticed a bit of red streaking in his tail fin and a red spot under one of his pectoral fins when this first began. It's hard to tell, but I dont think it is there anymore.

I don't know if you got the memo but it's not a good idea to feed tig's shrimp that are under 12" they can't digest it and usually die. Sorry not trying to be mean or negative hope he/she lives

I have read feeding the shrimp long term can kill them, but nothing on small tigrinus not being able to digest it at all. I honestly think this is a case of me feeding him too big of a piece. He was pretty thin and unhealthy when I got him and he really liked shrimp, so I've been feeding it to fatten him up.

He is actually doing quite a bit better now. He is swimming fairly normally, but just kind of teetering a bit when he swims. Is this normal behaviour for a fish in recovery from bloat?

Well one treatment, or the combination of treatments, I used seems to have worked. The tigrinus is swimming almost completely normal now and is becoming more active. His color is also slowly coming back. I think I will slowly start removing the epsom salt and meds tomorrow and see if his condition continues to improve.

i heard bad stories of shrimp killing tigrinus.. convert it to pellets. I went from bloodworms and then slowly mixing it with pellets.. now it eats everything that hits the water.

I started putting a small layer of shrimp over the nls pellets I have and he is taking them, so hopefully I can get him off shrimp soon.
