This was my Veteran's Day project, moving a couple water heaters. They just installed a geothermal heat pump for the radiant floor heating. The heat pumps will also heat the domestic hot water through a heat exchanger. The tank on the left is a standard electric WH, the one on the right is just storage. All the extra valves and piping are so that the left-hand tank can be isolated if the geothermal system is down for maintenance or repair.
I used Rehau PEX fittings for the first time. They use an expansion tool to stretch the pipe and then another tool to push down the sleeve over the connections. The tools are cumbersome but the connection is probably the strongest I've ever seen.
It is a very complicated system, but it will be 3-4 times more efficient than resistance heating.
Just thought I'd share for all you tekkies!
