Would it be possible for me to plumb my fx5 into a sump? I was thinking the fx5 is the intake and then the return line goes into the sump( prob a 35-45 gal sump) then is pumped out of the sump and back up to the tank. Or would it be better to just have the sump setup completely separate doing my biological filtration and then the fx5 separate doing my chemical filtration. This will be for a 125 fijian reef tank. Thnx

Set it up separate. Canisters work best when the intake and return are at the same head. They lose A LOT of flow (if not all) if the return is higher.

Ok. I would have a second sump return pump. The fx5 return line would be taking the place of an overflow since I have an undrillable tank. I just don't want to mess up with saltwater, it's a lot pricier than fresh...

I have done it using the first method in your initial post. It worked great! The output led to the sump.
