I have a 125 gal tank that i run a drip and overflow system on and the 1" pvc overflow keeps on clogging and overflowing the tank, this weekend i plan on drilling the tank for 4 - 1.5" bulkheads.

here is my plan so far:

The only real question i have is the heater. I do not like seeing the heater, and hoses in the tank, has anyone ever put a heater in an 1.5" pvc pipe and ran a powerhead through it?

I plan on putting a 1.5" "T" at the bulkhead and running a piece of pipe up about 6" above the water line, then i can drop the heater into the pipe and seal around the wire with a rubber gasket.

I would guess that i would need about a 200 gpm pump to force the warmer water into the return line.

so what do you think.

Put it in the sump, I assume that a "drip system" would be your wet/dry. There has to be a sump under that.

No sump, just canisters

I have 2 - 2028 eheims, and a fluval 404

(this tank was started off 3 years ago as a high tech planted tank with CO2 inj, sumps and wet dry filters gas off the co2 so fast)

I have an inline charcoal filter that strips the clorine out of municipal water and i drip 36 gal of water per day in the tank. Currently it overflows into a 1" homemade overflow that i want to ditch

my only real question is about the heater in the schedule 40 PVC, i would rather not see it in the tank if i can help it.

I can't see why what you describe won't work.

They do make inline heaters, pet solutions has a 300W inline heater for $52.99.

Or add a sump.

I'm doing that, i can even skip drilling one hole. I can tie that thing on under the tank, into the return line.

thanks
